20 March 2026 - Ocean Park Unveils Ying Ying’s Miracle

Cultural Exchange

The EDB Arts Education Section has recruited 10 students from HKUGAC to participate in the Unveiling Ying Ying’s Miracle  by internationally renowned portrait artist Henry Liam Ward at Ocean Park. Students also enjoyed the rare opportunity to learn sketching techniques directly from Mr. Ward.

Mr. Ward, recognised by the UK’s National Portrait Gallery in London as a leading practitioner in painted group portraiture, has created Ying Ying’s Miracle (2025) — a monumental oil painting measuring 96” x 72”. Inspired by the giant panda family at Ocean Park, the piece beautifully fuses Eastern and Western artistic traditions, drawing from the elegance of the Coromandel screen and Asian non‑convergent perspective, while employing Western figurative painting and chiaroscuro.
