17 November 2023 -North Star Programme Kick-off Ceremony

On the night of the North Star Programme Kick-off Ceremony, various professionals from different sectors visited our College to inspire and guide the S5 students in our future academic and career planning.

It was a spectacular sight to see an investment analyst, an NGO Co-Founder, a professor, Olympic gold medal-winning professional windsurfer Ms Lee Lai Shan and all other professionals sitting in the same hall. I was lucky to have had a long conversation with Ms Aria Cheung, a barrister-at-law who was also a former student of the College. She did not only share her experiences in her legal career but also her academic studies in secondary school and university. Her sharing has deepened my understanding of the legal industry and boosted my aspiration to become a lawyer in the future.

I believe that the North Star Programme goes beyond an informational event, unlike a Wikipedia page on the computer screen which merely provides us with information about our desired career paths. Instead, it serves as a platform for passionate sharing and fruitful interactions. It gives us, the students who have limited exposure to social reality, an invaluable opportunity to listen to first-person narratives from our mentors. The North Star Programme is a wonderful opportunity for a mentee-mentor intersubjective experience, providing a rare and precious opportunity for students to catch a glimpse of the adult world.
