Friday 18th October saw the return of the popular HKUGA College University Fair and it was an event not to be missed. The annual event, organized by the Career and Life Planning Committee, is a valuable time in the school year for parents and senior students to gather information about university programmes from around the world and to help them plan for their future.

This year, over 30 top universities from across the globe were represented and set up information booths in the Assembly Hall. Enthusiastic ambassadors were on hand throughout the evening to give first-hand information about the extensive range of programs they had to offer, as well as answering face-to-face questions about local and overseas study options. In addition to several prominent universities from Hong Kong, representatives from the UK, Australia, Canada, Switzerland, Japan and the United States were in attendance and provided important information about the options available for those wishing to study abroad. While the chance to take away up-to-date brochures from a range of universities was a major goal for most attendees, families also benefited from the representatives’ valuable suggestions and tips for selecting a university, making program choices and understanding application procedures.

Alongside the information booths in the hall, parallel seminars were held in various classrooms and the Activity Center, lasting 20 minutes each. Since many students view local institutions as dependable options for further study, these presentations in particular were extremely popular, with barely an empty seat in the house! The engaging talks were an excellent way to demonstrate to prospective students how each university differed and allowed them to consider which tertiary-education provider would be best suited to their skills, abilities and interests.

With the prospect of considering life choices after graduation approaching, the Career and Life Planning Committee provides a great arm of support to students and parents throughout the senior years. As the event was open to the community, many students and parents from other schools also benefited from the evening’s activities and left with a wealth of new information to consider. All in all, the fair had a continuous flow of visitors, a dynamic exchange of information, and a friendly, family-centred atmosphere.
