Mr. Ray Lazanyi - Head of Mathematics and ICT; Tutor of S2CL
I have always loved reverse engineering everything that I could lay my hands on ... in order to find out how things worked.
So, when I went to Monash University in Victoria, Australia, I had the choice of engineering or science, I choose science because by that time, I had a desire to work with young people’s minds and to teach rather than build objects.
I have always loved a balance between mental and physical exertion and so I usually love challenges involving problem solving, lateral thinking, entering mathematics competitions, chess and backgammon with playing sports of all kinds, e.g. surfing, baseball, tennis, badminton, volleyball, etc.
My ambition is to develop independent thinkers and learners by giving my students challenges and accepting challenges from them!!! For example, I would like to learn to play Chinese chess!!!
I also enjoy travelling which I did for a year before my wife and I had two beautiful daughters. Now that they have grown up, I have again accepted the challenge of travelling and so have arrived in Hong Kong to further learn about Asian culture and continue to teach.
In Victoria, Australia, I loved cycling where you could ride for hours on different routes. But in Hong Kong, the hills are my biggest challenge as they never seem to get easier!!!.
My qualifications include Bachelor of Science (Applied Mathematics), Monash University, Melbourne, Australia; Diploma of Education, Monash University, Melbourne, Australia; and Graduate Diploma of Electronic Computing, La Trobe University, Bendigo, Australia.
