 Technology and Living

Technology and Living curriculum at HKUGAC provide students an opportunity to extend their knowledge on Science and apply their skills, learning and understanding in Textile Science and Food Science within a variety of contexts while maintaining the coherence inherent in this subject area. It will enable candidates to extend their technological capability in order to meet human needs and opportunities which have direct implications on the lifestyle and environment of all people. It will provide opportunities to develop interdisciplinary skills including the generic skills and their capability for imaginative, innovative thinking, creativity and independence relating to their personal interest.

The study of Food Science and Textile Science
The study of Food Science enabled students to develop their critical thinking and to manage a range of resources in order to develop food items which are suited to the needs of individuals or families, and to recognises the influence of current trends, the market economy and technological change. The course reflects the view that Technology and Living should provide a variety of experiences whilst focusing on concepts, themes and issues relevant to the subject content.

The Study of Textile Science calls for students to become autonomous and creative problem solvers, as individuals and members of a team. It combines practical skills with an understanding of aesthetics, social and environmental issues, function and industrial practices. Students reflect on and evaluate relevant present and past technology, its uses and effects. The curriculum seeks to help students to become discriminating and informed users and innovators of products. It encourages students to think and intervene creatively to improve the quality of life for society.
