Science

The science course prepares students for life in the twenty-first century by providing them with a structure for the development of thinking skills, attitudes and dispositions characteristic of independent, lifelong learners.

The science course emphasises the role of inquiry and encourages the development of skills that can contribute to the development of an analytical and critical way of thinking.

In order to nurture all students to become confident and curious learners, the science course aims to challenge all students by providing opportunities for different needs and learning styles.

In conjunction with the other subject groups and areas of interaction, the Science course contributes to helping students broaden their understanding of themselves as individuals and as collective members of society and the natural environment.

The Science course in S1 and S2is an integrated science course with a considerable emphasis on exploration and the development of investigative skills.  The course integrates topics from biology, chemistry and physics.

The skills for practical investigation developed to S4 will equip students with all the necessary tools to tackle a science laboratory programme in S5 and S6.  The courses in S4 include a wide range of learning styles to closely reflect the reality of the scientific world.  Thus students are required to produce written essay projects and research papers, laboratory reports, presentations and debates in addition to the usual modular tests and examinations.
