Introduction to “Homeless World Cup” by Mr. Alex Chan – 4th October, 2007

Mr. Alex Chan, printer by profession and an ardent lover of football, read about the Homeless World Cup in a newspaper in January 2005.  He found out that in Hong Kong, there is a homeless soccer team under the Society for Community Organization (SOCO) which was short of funds but which would like to participate in that event. 

Mr. Chan volunteered to help the team in their training and to raise funds so they could take part.  He eventually became their manager and led them to Homeless World Cup 2005 in Edinburgh, 2006 in Capetown and 2007 in Copenhagen.  He is presently preparing the team to participate in the 6th Homeless World Cup in Melbourne in December 2008. 

Mr. Chan demonstrates how passion could be turned into meaningful voluntary work.
